Book Stipend & Housing Allowance
Students using VA benefits can receive a book stipend up to $1,000 per academic year. It is paid out in a lump sum at a rate of $41.67 per quarter credit hour totalling 24 quarter credits. If 3.3 semester hours = 5 quarter credits, then this means the VA will pay for the equivalent of 16 semester units in book stipends (eligibility is based on service record). For students using VA benefits and are attending in-person classes on campus, the VA will pay a monthly housing allowance (MHA) which is a percentage of the full monthly housing allowance (called a “prorated payment”) based on the percentage of your benefit’s eligibility and the number of credits you are taking. If you’re taking only online classes (also known as “distance learning”), The VA will pay a housing allowance that’s half the national average. For more information, please contact the VA at 1-888-442-4551
